The dead flower scapes of the Xanthorrhoea is
another nesting site.
Many of the flowers were found with starter
entrances, suggesting that the bees could have
been examining the scape for suitability.
Active nests were found to be not obviously decaying
and no other holes were present (as from ants).
Abandoned nests were found to have decaying
scapes where the pith could not retain the
tunnel structure
